Haven Charter High School students recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in an interactive Cardiovascular Exploration and Surgical Skills Lab, bringing science to life through a hands-on experience they will not soon forget. This special session gave students the chance to deepen their learning in a real-world setting while building confidence, curiosity, and excitement about future careers in healthcare.

Guided by Dr. Coury, a practicing surgeon and relative of a Haven staff member, students explored the anatomy of the heart through guided examination of pig heart specimens, watched a live suturing demonstration, and even practiced introductory suturing techniques in a safe, supervised environment. They also took part in meaningful conversations about medicine, community health, and the many pathways available in the healthcare field. It was an inspiring experience that allowed students to see themselves as future professionals while celebrating the power of hands-on learning.
