Janzel

For 14-year-old Janzel, school is more than a place to learn;  it is where his future is taking shape.

A proud Bronx native and the son of Dominican-born parents, Janzel is one of five siblings in a family that believes deeply in education and perseverance. As a freshman at Haven Charter High School, he is discovering what it means to prepare not just for graduation, but for college and a meaningful career in healthcare.

At Haven, learning is hands-on and purposeful. In science classrooms, Janzel conducts experiments, analyzes real data, and explores how biology connects to the human body and community health. He is not just reading about medicine,  he is beginning to understand the responsibility and discipline it requires.

Haven’s rigorous college and career preparatory curriculum ensures that students are challenged academically while being supported personally. Teachers and Advisors know Janzel’s goals. They encourage his questions, push him to think critically, and remind him that students from the Bronx belong in lecture halls, labs, and hospitals across the country.

“Being at Haven makes me feel prepared for my future,” Janzel shares. “I feel like I’m working toward something important.” His mother sees the difference. “We are grateful to Haven for believing in our son,” she says. “You are helping build our future doctors and professionals.”
